Auditions!
All auditioners who meet the eligibility requirements for any role shall be afforded equal opportunity to be considered for that role. Persons interested in a role for which they do not meet all eligibility requirements may be allowed to audition for that role at the discretion of the Director. We are a non-equity house and all performers are volunteer.
Because we perform and rehearse above a bar, we do require everyone who auditions for us be 18 years or older. We may accept auditions from younger if there is a parent or guardian who will be present at all rehearsals and performances.

Everyone who has placed a reservation for their audition will be seen.
We also, accept walk-in auditions as time permits.
Video submissions will also be considered. Please email theroomupstairstheatre@gmail.com for more information on video auditions.
Please use the link below to reserve a slot for in person auditions.
All auditionees are asked to prepare:
60-90 seconds of song from your repertoire in the style of the show
You are also welcome to additionally sing a song from the show if you would like, however, it is not required for casting
Versions of the songs are available on Youtube/Spotify for reference.
Please bring an mp3 or your PHONE with a 60-90 second cut of your audition tracks on it. You may not be asked to sing the entire audition piece.

Auditions for our 2026 season
Reefer Madness
Characters:
Please note, anyone can audition for any character,
however the character will be portrayed onstage as the gender written.
JIMMY HARPER – (M) Tenor - A wholesome, innocent, high school teenager who runs into trouble after he is lured into the dangerous world of reefer
LECTURER – (M) Baritone - A severe authority figure who warns the audience of the perils of Reefer Madness.
MARY LANE – (F) Mezzo - Jimmy's sweetheart, a naïve, virginal teenage girl
JACK STONE – (M) Tenor - The handsome and ruthless proprietor of the Reefer Den, a 30's gangster movie-type.
MAE – (F) Alto - An attractive, yet slightly haggard dame in her mid-30s, the hostess of the Reefer Den
RALPH WILEY – (M) Tenor - A denizen of the Reefer Den, formally a fraternity man, his college days ended long ago due to his reefer habit.
SALLY – (F) Alto - A sexy and seductive resident of the Reefer Den, she possesses the libidinous soul of Mae West combined with the rat-a-tat moxie of vintage Barbara Stanwyck.
ENSEMBLE – Singing/dancing ensemble consisting of Reefer Zombies, Kids at the Five-and-Dime, Jungle Orgy dancers, Angels, and patriotic background chorus in the Star-Spangled Finale
